• I decided to move my blog from a subdirectory of my site up to the root directory. I installed WordPress in the root directory and added redirections from my subdirectory installation of WordPress to the root directory using the Redirection plugin. Probably unwisely, I installed Redirection in both installations of WordPress. (Both installations of WordPress point to the same database.) I began to get some unexpected behaviour re redirections happening, so deinstalled both versions of Redirection and deleted the redirection folders from the Plugins folders at both levels.
My problem is, there still appears to be a redirection in place for the index page of my site – it always redirects to my ‘About’ page. I suspect that I managed to introduce some sort of error somewhere along the line – is there any alternative to completely wiping the database and starting again from scratch? Can I selectively delete or reset anything to remove any outstanding redirections? Thanks very much for any pointers.

  • Did you use redirecting via .htaccess ? If so, open up your .htaccess file and check if there are any left over rules still in the file.

Are you sure you haven’t set your about page as your home page in the WordPress options?

Thanks for your suggestions. I have investigated further and the problem only occurs using IE on my own laptop – any other browser on my laptop and any other laptop using any browser can access my site withtout any issues. I have restarted IE and refreshed but it still redirects. I can probably live with it – just shows how important it is to test properly on a variety of browsers.

    ?? Thanks

It sounds like your browser may be caching the redirect. If you clear all of your caches then it may stop

Oh no – I spoke too soon. Now, I notice that when I have a list of abbreviated posts on a page, when I click on the Read More button for any of the posts, instead of showing me the complete post, it redirects to the About page. This happens even for a new post I added today. This happens in IE, Chrome and Firefox.

    A link would be helpful….

Also, try and look at the redirect/access logs of your website which you may be able to access through your hosting control panel. That should at least give you some idea of the redirect path and may point you to the solution.

Thanks – website is https://www.slaterwebsites.co.uk – the blog posts are on the How To.. page.
I will try to find out what the redirect/access logs tell me.
I have tried changing themes and there is still a problem so it is not the theme that is causing issues.
I didn’t use the .htaccess option by the way so I’m a bit unsure how to find out where the redirection is happening.
    Thanks

I was having the same problem and was so frustrated for hours! All I had to do was clear the cache in Firefox and now it works. Thank you so much!!
