Facing an issue with the redirection for one of our clients. The site is using Really Simple SSL plugin. The issue is, the user is navigated to the wp-admin(Dashboard) page. On navigating to a page, the request is made with status code 301, server as Cloudflare with location as the page URL with a ‘/’. Then a new request is called with the location value from the previous request, status code 302, server as Cloudflare, and location as ‘/login’ which itself again redirects to the wp-admin page. For eg, after user logs in if he/she navigates to a page, ‘https://www.mysite.com/page1’ then it redirects to ‘https://www.mysite.com/page1/’ and then to ‘https://www.mysite.com/login’ which finally redirects to the Dashboard page.

May I know updates on this? Also, let me know if more information is required.

    Hi @shivanirupnawar,

it could be a different (login) plugin is adding the 302 redirect to /login. Really Simple SSL won’t add a 302 redirect to a login page. Can you check if you use a login plugin? And post the contents of your .htaccess file so we can check if the redirect is set there.

    Hi Mark,

    Thanks for your response.

I checked my plugins list, but there is no other plugin used which deals with redirection. Also, the issue is not observed when we disable the cache from the Network’s tab(Chrome DevTools).

Proving the contents of the .htaccess file:-

    Hi @shivanirupnawar,

I don’t see any 302 redirect in your .htaccess file, so it doesn’t seem to be coming from there either. You did say the redirect does not occur when you disable caching in the network tab. Could you try to clear your browsers cache to see if that resolves the issue?

Yes, but every time I can’t just clear the browser cache. Even when I tried visiting my site in incognito mode, the redirection to Dashboard happens.

Basically, the behavior of the issue is, if the user enters a site URL that needs authentication, then he is redirected to the Login form. And this redirection is being cached by the browser, the request status code is 302. After successful login when the user again hits the URL(the earlier one, which initially needed authentication), this request is served from disk cache, and it redirects to the wp-admin page as the user is logged in.

I see, browsers can indeed cache redirects. What you could try is to bypass the cache by adding the cache-control: no-store header to your .htaccess file. This header can prevent the browser from caching. It should also be possible to prevent the 302 redirect from being cached on the server level. For more information about that see https://serverfault.com/questions/308191/setting-different-caching-headers-for-difrerent-redirections-using-apache-mod-re
