Just discovered that my client’s website, awishyourheartmakes.com, is redirecting on mobile to a subpage. We want the landing page to be the homepage. I was using WPTouch plugin for years and saw that it was indeed set to redirect to the puppet shows page…so I changed that, but it’s still not changing it on the live site. I now have deactivated the plugin…realizing that I don’t need it anymore…and that change shows on live site, but not the right landing page.

I should note that if you just go to awishyourheartmakes.com that it lands on the right page. But if you do a google search and tap on the first link it comes up with, it redirects to the puppet page. Every time. And I even edited a bunch on the mobile theme…all of which immediately showed on the live site…but this one thing won’t change.

I am sure I missed something somewhere that’s set to make the mobile landing page the puppet page…but darned if I can find it anywhere? Help?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @sunflowermom,

Your domain –?awishyourheartmakes.com –?seems to load the page now for me (Philadelphia, USA). Is it working for you now too?

Sadly, no. Are you looking on a mobile device? It only does it on a mobile device. I have checked all 3 iPhones in this house and it does it on every one.

It’s so bizarre because in the backend of WP it shows that the mobile site doesn’t redirect….it goes to the right page. But for some reason the google search result, which still only shows the homepage on the search page….will redirect to https://awishyourheartmakes.com/puppet-shows-1st-birthdays/ every stinkin time!

I tested it with the developer mode in Chrome (F12), and if I have the page set to mobile and do the search for “a wish your heart makes”….it redirects to the puppet page there too! So if you can’t get it to do it on your phone, try developer mode and do the search as mobile and click the first link.

I’m wondering if it’s a google issue? I have no idea what I’m looking at here. HELP! My client is upset that the mobile site is showing the wrong landing page. ??

And everything I’ve googled has found nothing that works.

While in mobile mode on my desktop browser, looking at the search results page (as mobile), inspecting the source code from google search page, I see this:

    More about A Wish Your Heart Makes</div></div></g-immersive-footer></div></div></g-sticky-content-container></div></div></div></div></div><div class="srg" data-ved="0ahUKEwjAzYmXjrfXAhVSyWMKHbZkDMMQui0IzgEoAQ"><div data-hveid="207"><div class="_Z1m"><div jscontroller="UrRncd" class="_a5r" data-id="1" data-ss="" jsaction="rcuQ6b:npT2md"><div><div><a class="_Olt _bCp" href="https://awishyourheartmakes.com/puppet-shows-1st-birthdays/" ping="/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://awishyourheartmakes.com/puppet-shows-1st-birthdays/&ved=0ahUKEwjAzYmXjrfXAhVSyWMKHbZkDMMQFgjQATAU&usg=AOvVaw0kr3PcKTZh6MvQiimD08F8" oncontextmenu="google.ctpacw.cm(this)">

I do not know enough code to figure this out…but it clearly shows the puppet page url on the source code of the google search results page. So the question is, WHERE did this come from and how do I change it? And is it on Google’s end or WordPress?

I did go into google dashboard and requested indexing of the homepage as smartphone…but not sure that will help. Just grasping at straws here. It still feels like this must be something on WP end, since the WPTouch plugin DID have it redirect to the puppet page before. I’ve since changed it but for some reason that change won’t show…yet all other changes immediately showed, so I’m perplexed. Feel like I’m just missing something simple…but darned if I can figure it out!

I also just noticed this in the google dashboard:

    https://awishyourheartmakes.com/

Googlebot type: Mobile: Smartphone (render requested)
Redirected on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 10:16:29 AM PST
    This URL redirected to:
    https://awishyourheartmakes.com/

It says it’s redirecting to the same page…don’t know why it would need to redirect at all. Also, that’s not the page it’s showing to mobile users!

When I Google “A Wish Your Heart Makes”, I’m seeing that the first search result is for the puppet page and not for the home page on your client’s site.

For me, that becomes not a redirection issue, but an SEO issue.
