This is to make the authentication process easier. A LinkedIn application can only have one return URL. So what we do is note the location of your site, authenticate with LinkedIn and then create a redirect from our site back to your site. Ideally this would be unnecessary but as I said LinkedIn forces one return URL.

Older versions of the plugin we actually made you create your own application but this became a pain because people didn’t know how to do this even though we provided a full video tutorial. So we simplified things and just used our own application that everyone uses. No data is collected during this redirect process and even if we did collect the data it is actually meaningless i.e. we can’t do anything with it.

If you don’t like this practice feel free to download one of the older versions of the plugin. Thanks

Thank you for your clear answer.

Maybe you can mention it somewhere on the plugin page or in the plugin?

Well we aren’t collecting any data so we don’t need to disclose anything. You’re actually the first person to raise it. If anyone else asks about it I will consider adding this to the FAQ. Thanks,
