    The force www option is probably easiest:

    Blimey, I can’t believe I missed a dedicated option!

    However, it doesn’t seem to work.

    Can server settings prevent this from working? the server here is beyond my control and as aforementioned running Azure. Normally I would write a rule in the .htaccess file for this sort of thing but that does not apply in this setup.

    Server settings can prevent all kinds of things, but I couldn’t say if it is in this instance. You will also need to configure WordPress with the new address too.
