• Hello,
I moved my blog from WordPress.com. I had purchased my domain name through WordPress.com. I wanted more flexibility, so I purchased a hosting solution with GoDaddy. I have everything up with little trouble, however, the one thing I can’t seem to do is direct traffic to mydomain.com instead of mydomain.com/wordpress.

I would appreciate any help you can provide. I contacted GoDaddy technical support and they suggested creating an alias with the registar, but there isn’t an option for that when I log into the registrar account.

I’ve hunted through these forums and Googled for two days now. I’m hoping someone can help me. I’m sure it’s a simple fix, but I lack experience knowing where to look.

    Thank you

  • I’m not sure I completely understand where you are now with the domain name. It sounds like you have your blog installed in your_domain.com/wordpress at Godaddy (and it’s working?) and you just want it to be at your_domain.com at Godaddy? If that’s the case, then take a look at the second video on the page linked below. If you are still having trouble getting your domain name you have registered at wp.com to resolve to your account at Godaddy, then disregard this.

Thank you. This is exactly what I need to do. I’m hoping this redirect option will work for me.

I followed the instructions, but apparently there is another redirect in place that doesn’t appear in my control panel on GoDaddy. I’m thinking it might be a WordPress.com redirect that happens automatically when you change the nameservers to GoDaddy.

Anyway, that’s not for this forum, so I’ll contact technical support again and see if they can make this work for me.

Thank you for such a quick response. Despite the trouble moving from WordPress.com, which really hasn’t been that difficult, I’m enjoying this new experience.

I’m hoping this redirect option will work for me.

Yes, that should work if you want to leave your blog in a subdirectory and just redirect your root there.

For future reference, buy your domain names from a provider like Godaddy so that you have complete control…nothing against wp.com…I would advise this regardless of who you host with.
