    Hello,

we run a WordPress Multisite with several subsites. Now we have decided to archive most of the old sites and combine them in a new achive site. All article from a certain subsite are now in the new archive site under a certain category. The old subsites are deactivated in the WordPress Multisite.

As a last step I try to redirect the URL of the old subsite to the new category archive, like this:

    https://mywebsite.com/oneOldBlog >>> https://mywebsite.com/archive/category/oneOldBlog

… but it doesn’t work. I’ve tried with a redirection plugin and also by writing the rule directly to .htaccess.

For the old blog URL I get a status 410 error message (‘Gone’).

Is there a way to redirect the URL of an old, deactivated (not deleted) multisite to a new one?

  • Hello. ??

It looks like you may not be the first person to struggle with this.

If I’m understanding your problem correctly, the first answer to a similar question in the WPMU Dev support forums could have just the code you need.

    Hope this works!

    Hi Cate,

thanks! I already tried rewrite rules in the .htaccess before.. it seems there was something wrong about the trailing slash… some more attempts and not it works!

    All the best! ??
