    Hello,

I have an issue with the author pages, in a one-author blog. I don’t want to activate the archives, but I also don’t want Yoast to redirect the author URL to the homepage. Can anyone suggest a solution, where that URL can show a particular page (author bio for example)? I don’t know if using a 301 redirect via htaccess could result in a loop…

  • Hi,

There are three ways to resolve this:

    1. Keep Author Page Disabled
    A. Take a backup of the site. If you are not sure how to do this, your host provider can help.

    B. Manually enter a redirect in your .htaccess file for the URL. Google will not index the author page as it will show-up as a redirect. Confirm no issues happen. If they do, you may need to restore the site.

C.Google Search Console is not expected to show errors for the author page.

    2. If issues happen with 1, Keep Author Page Enabled
    A. Go to SEO-Search Appearance-Archives and enable the Author page.

    B. Manually enter a redirect in your .htaccess file for the URL. Google will not index the author page as it will show-up as a redirect. Confirm no issues happen. If they do, you may need to restore the site.

    C. Though, you may see the author sitemap remain in the Yoast sitemaps (this guide explains how to find the Yoast sitemaps: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/enable-xml-sitemaps-in-the-wordpress-seo-plugin/). If it does show-up, you can expect errors in Google Search Console for that sitemap.

I’m surprised this needs to be solved like this… I was expecting a proper solution without the need to touch any htaccess manually or risk going in a redirect loop.
