Hi, do you have the following Brute Force feature enabled Enable Brute Force Attack Prevention?

This long link won’t work when I close the browser and open it again. It get redirect 127.0.0.1.

For how long are you logged in, before you decide to close the browser?

    Thank you

    Hi,

Yes, I have “Enable Brute Force Attack” enable.

It depends, sometimes I stay longer (1 hour) and other just a few minutes for a fast update of my website.

    Thanks!

Thank you for reporting back. Do you have a setting enabled in the browser to clear the browser cache when the browser is closed?

    Hi,

    Yes, I have.

That means that every time you close your browser, the plugins security cookie from Enable Brute Force Attack Prevention feature is deleted. This is why you are redirected to 127.0.0.1. when you open the browser again.

Try the following test. Disable the option to clear your cache in the browser, then log into your site, close the browser and open it again. What happens then?

    Regards

    Hi,
I think the problem isn’t from the option to clear cache in the browser, because:
1 – it happens with my laptop that doesn’t have the option enabled
2 – I work with my friend together on the website and the redirect problem happens to her too and she doesn’t use the clear cache in the browser.

Anyway I perfomed the test and the problem persisted.

    Thank you again

    Hi,

I read again your original comment above.

2 – I can access my wordpress, but only with the secret word link, that automaticaly redirect to a long link
3 – This long link won’t work when I close the browser and open it again. It get redirect 127.0.0.1.

I did a test myself in my dev site and when I typed the secret login URL in the browser address and entered my credentials it redirected me to mysite.com/wp-admin/. But in your case you are saying that it redirected you to a long link, which does not sound correct to me. Do you have a cache plugin installed in your site?

Also, did you perform a cookie test first before you enabled Enable Brute Force Attack Prevention? This is to make sure that your browser cookie is working correctly and that you won’t lock yourself out.

    Regards

    Hi,

I′m using your plugin since the very first moment when I started my wordpress website. From then I used to access to the wordpress login page with the long link that I referred. But, for some reason, two months ago this long link stopped working and started to redirect to 127.0.0.1.

    Replying to your questions:
I’m using W3 Total Cache and recently Hummingbird too.
And yes, I’d performed a cookie test first before enabled “Enable Brute Force Attack Prevention”, according to the instruction when I installed your plugin.

    Thank you again!

    Hi,

But, for some reason, two months ago this long link stopped working and started to redirect to 127.0.0.1.

That means something in your server or your site settings has changed. You need to investigate what changed 2 months ago in your site or server. This will help you workout why this started happening.

My suspicion is a cache issue, however your host updated your server as well.

    Thank you

    Hi @gracinda
Since you say that you are using the cookie based brute force prevention feature, then the explanation for the behaviour you are seeing is that the special cookie which is needed to access the wordpress login page is not present in your browser, which is why you are redirected to 127.0.0.1.
So it appears that for your case, the browser has cleared the cookies and you will need to add them again using the secret word url.

Can you please confirm, are you able to successfully access the login page (yoursite.com/wp-login.php) and login after you visit the special link which uses the cookie-based secret word?

two months ago this long link stopped

I am slightly confused by what you mean when you say “long link”. Are you referring to the login page?
I recommend that whenever you want to login to your wordpress site, you simply use the standard wordpress login link (yoursite.com/wp-login.php) if your cookie is present in the browser. If it isn’t, simply use the special word url to deposit the cookie again.

    Hi,
I’m sorry bothering you, as my technical knowledge is quite weak.

Can you please confirm, are you able to successfully access the login page (yoursite.com/wp-login.php) and login after you visit the special link which uses the cookie-based secret word?

I confirm that I can’t access the login page with the standard login link (yoursite.com/wp-login.php) after using the secret word link. It simply redirects to 127.0.0.1. Even after clearing my browser’s cookies I can’t access to login page with the standard login link.

I am slightly confused by what you mean when you say “long link”. Are you referring to the login page?

Yes, I mean the login page. When I paste the secret word link in the browser it redirects to my login page (which link is a longer one). And is this link that won’t work again after I close the browser.

I recommend that whenever you want to login to your wordpress site, you simply use the standard wordpress login link (yoursite.com/wp-login.php) if your cookie is present in the browser. If it isn’t, simply use the special word url to deposit the cookie again.

But, now I only can access my login page with the secret word link, which I’ve to insert in the browser everytime I want to work on my website.
And the reason of redirect 127.0.0.1. still unsolved.

    Thank you so much again
