I am having trouble uploading images from the computer as each time a red cross shows up. I can see that the images are uploading and are listed in the uploads folder when I check online. I can upload via URL without a problem, but I would much prefer to upload from the computer.

I have included the start of a draft showing upload via URL and computer for reference.

    Address: https://www.edwardsfurniture.co.uk/wordpress
    Image Store: Default
    Plugins: None

I have tried going back to the twenty-ten theme but the same issue arises.

Is there something glaringly obvious that I have overlooked?

  • It is odd that you have a problem only with uploads from your computer. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone mention that problem.

Where is that ‘draft’ that you mentioned?

Meanwhile, try it from a different computer and browser.

It is probably a good idea to reupload your WordPress core files– wp-admin and wp-includes would likely cover it.

Also, you say that your ‘image store’ is ‘default’ but none of those images are serving from WordPress’s default location, which would be /wp-content/uploads/. Why is that?

I have created another draft, as I finished the other post off that the image was shown in before.

I cannot understand the error I am getting as we have another wordpress blog and I can upload images from the computer fine-all the settings are the same.

It is creating the images in the uploads folder but for some reason is not showing them properly.

I will upload the files you mention again-do I need to back anything up at all…I am not too familiar with wordpress..assume the major bits are all on a database though?

Thanks for getting back to me.

Uploading files shouldn’t damage your content but since something mysterious is obviously wrong it wouldn’t hurt to make a backup.

    Maybe this is your problem:

    https://www.edwardsfurniture.co.uk/error-pages/403.html

Attempting to view that ‘white’ image at all results in a 403 error. Since you say that you’ve checked and that the image does actually upload I have to think that you have some security settings or redirect rules that are making the image directory inaccessible.

The other image isn’t in the wp-content/uploads directory. Did you upload that via the media uploader or did you just hyperlink to it?

I have just looked at the other wordpress blog permissions for the uploads folder and the ones on this one. They were indeed different, so I have altered the permissions on this one and the upload appears to now be working properly. Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention.

Is there something I did wrong on install that caused this issue? Just so I know for next time.

    Thanks again.

Is there something I did wrong on install that caused this issue?

Probably not. Its a server configuration issue that WordPress itself has little to no control over.
