This plugin is exactly what I am looking for: something to “trickle” out my pending posts. I have no desire for it to recycle old posts, though.

I have “Recycle Posts Mode?” Unchecked, but today old posts began to get republished anyway. What am I doing wrong?

On another note, I noticed that the plugin seems to be duplicating and publishing my posts marked “pending,” resulting in two copies, including my original post still marked “pending.”

    Thanks!

First note: Do you have ‘Publish’ checked under Eligible Posts?

Publish. If checked, published posts will be checked for posting/recycling. This disables Recycle Posts Mode.

If checked, old posts can be re-published according to your settings. It is slightly different than Recycling posts.

On second note, the plugin only updates existing posts. If posts are being created, please check to see if you are using any other plugins that might do this. What does the APS logfile show? Try it with debug mode to see everything.

    Thanks for the feedback, johnh10.

No, I do NOT have “Publish” checked. “Recycle Posts Mode?” is also unchecked.

As such, I’m suspecting that I have another plugin, FeedWordPress, set up incorrectly. I’ll keep an eye and report back if anything else is wrong.

Can you explain the difference to me between republishing and recycling?

    Thanks.

Recycle Posts Mode? If checked, the oldest published posts will be recycled if there are no eligible posts.

This is the most common usage. When APS cannot find any more Eligible drafts or pending posts, it will recycle the oldest published post as ‘new’ by setting it’s date to NOW.

    Eligible Post Statuses?
Publish. If checked, published posts will be checked for posting/recycling. This disables Recycle Posts Mode.

Rare usage. For those who want to consider published posts as well as drafts/pending for eligible posts. For instance, if all 3 statuses are checked, APS will (re)publish the oldest post regardless of its post status of draft, pending, or published. Sounds crazy to me, but someone asked for it. ??

Aha. It’s starting to make sense.

Will the “recycle posts” mode just change the date, or does it trigger things like Publicize again?

For “Publish” post status, does it also change the date to NOW, or does it actually duplicate the previously-published post?

Either way, I don’t want the plugin to do either of these things, so it doesn’t much matter, I guess.

    Thanks for all your help!

In both cases, it would only change the published date to NOW. It does this with the function wp_update_post and therefore trigger any associated hooks.

It does not create or duplicate any posts.
