• I have a domain powered by WP. All was well until I installed WP to a new domain I started hosting with same host (ipage). All my original files have been overwritten, ipage told me I should have opened new folder ( or something). I assumed that I was installing WP to new domain and old one would remain untouched, at no stage was I prompted that I was about to overwrite files. Ipage have said that they can’t locate old files and I need to use ‘local back up’. Prob is I have added content on many different machines. Am I stuck or would WP keep old files. I’m naive user but had built up loads of good content for a budding online business, frankly I’m traumatised. Is there any help I can get or is it really back to square one.
    Kind regards

  • All your posts, pages should be in the database.

The files you lost can be replaced except for any theme customization and your graphic uploads.

That’s great news, can you advise me how to recover them from the database, that would make my weekend, kind regards

First make sure you have a backup of your database.

Two ways. Install wp as a new install and then import data from the old database to the new or treat the new install as you would in moving wp. In the wp-config.php make sure you have the correct information for the original database.

I have managed to find my databases within my cpanel of ipage, there are 2 but unsure which is the old and which is the new (any tips for helping me identify them, there are no obvious dates etc). I do have to admit I am very uninformed about any of this technical stuff so please excuse me.
What it appears to be asking me to do is locate my files within my computer. Can you direct me what will be the specific names of wordpress files. Any help will be very grateful. Kind regards

All the wordpress files are on the server – where your hosted account is. You should be able to see them with what ever file manager your host provides.

Probably several ways to check file dates but I would go to users, user_registered and check the date for your name.
