recovering media files

I had to upload a backup of my database from a week prior due to some conflicting issues with a security program. All is fine, however there were some images uploaded during that week that do not show up in the media library which exist still in the uploads folder. Is there anyway to have WP register those files? Or is it so that I have to reupload them all and hard delete them from the uploads folder?
