Recovering a Site

  • Hi WordPress. I am looking for help with a website that previously belonged to my father. He passed away back in September 2018 and we were not able to find any documentation of the login email or password for this site. One of his employees knew it was a wordpress site but did not have any further information. Is there any way I can recover this site? It is for our family business and we need to update it as the business is still running.

  • Do you have access to the computer/server that it is running on? Or does the host provide an SSH shell or FTP into it?

    If so you can reset the password either through the database or one of the other methods in the WordPress Resetting your password guide:

    Hi Dan, I would contact the hosting company (looks like it’s 1and1) and the registrar (looks like it’s godaddy), explain the situation and follow their instructions. It might not be quick and easy – they have a responsibility to be sure you are the rightful owner before letting you take over the site.
