I started working on a custom post on Tues morning. By Thursday morning I had 10 pages of text and links. But when I clicked to publish the latest paragraph, it deleted all of the content except for the opening paragraph and blog photo.

How do I get this back?

    What I have done/checked:
    1) Seen all revisions in database are now actually missing.
    2) Run a ‘repair’ database (to remove side numbers) and run an optimise
    3) Talked to SP and they claim nothing is wrong with database.
    4) No revisions are available in WordPress Admin
    5) All other posts and pages are fine.
    6) Disabled all plugins and reactivated
    7) Changed theme

Please help me recover this data. Is there some kind of code I need to check?

Data was keyed directly into post, it was not cut and pasted.

  • Do you have any recent database backups?

I only have a database backup from Monday (before I started writing this latest blog post). So all of my other content is safe and secure.

I had 10 pages of text in my visual editor. I clicked publish and entire post was visible Thursday morning.

I then added a couple of new lines of text Thurs lunchtime and clicked publish again, and everything vanished except the opening paragraph.

Must be someway of getting it back?

I’m sorry but unless you have a database backup, there is no way to recover the missing text. Have you asked your hosts if they have a database backup?

I have asked them yes, still awaiting an answer.

However I was asked by them to do a PHP upgrade against my domain which I did (by clicking a button in my admin panel), and that is when this post vanished.

They claim a PHP upgrade would not delete content from a database, but it has.

In theory, a PHP update shouldn’t touch the database. Have you examined it to see if the content of this post is still there?

Yes, after the PHP, the database only shows the first version (opening paragraph) written on Tues 11th sept. But for some reason has now timestamped it as 13th september.

None of the revisions since Tuesday are in the database.

Basically what you are saying is if my SP cannot retrieve database from Thurs version, my post has gone?

    Yes – I’m afraid so ??

Okay esmi, thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. I really appreciate it. I will close the thread now.

Sorry I couldn’t be the bearer of better news. But do check your database for that “missing text”. It may still be in there but, for one reason or another, is not being output. That we might be able to help you tackle.

I added content to one of my site’s posts and forgot to click “Publish”. The content of that page has disappeared and I am unable to restore it. Can anybody please help?
