    Hi there,

Hitting a brick wall trying to reconnect my site to Jetpack. Have tried all the suggestions – disconnected all plugins, deleted Jetpack, set theme to default etc. Contacted our host, Siteground regarding the XMLRPC – they replied:

I can confirm that we do block XMLRPC and the xmlrpc.php direct browser access as you can verify in the following article:

    https://www.siteground.com/kb/xmlrpc-direct-browser-access-blocked/

Those changes were done in order to protect your website for a single day we experienced on our servers over 5.9 TB traffic 6.5 billion requests and wasted more than 10400 hours of CPU time that were related to xmlrpc.php. Thus, we took the required actions in order to stop those requests and provide more security for the users on our servers.

That would mean that we are blocking all requests that are made by browsers or requests that represent themselves with a user-agent of a browser. If you like to use the connection to the XMLRPC file the requests should be with a different user agent and not one of a browser as our system would detect it as malicious and block it.?

Everytime, Im just getting – We’re sorry, but an unexpected error has occurred

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! I have another site, exactly the same hosting, settings etc and that seems to connect no problems. I’m sure I have had this same problem in the past but can’t seem to find the solution.

    Kind regards, Steve

    Hi @blissicecreamparlour

Sorry for the delay in responding.

I looked at the Jetpack Connection for your site and it is now working. Can you let us know if you are still having issues?

Based on what you shared about the XML-RPC blocking on your site. I believe that Jetpack shouldn’t be blocked as it communicates differently than what is described in the text you shared. You can read more about how Jetpack uses XML-RPC here:

    Hi @lastsplash ,

Thanks for the reply! I am afraid the issue is not fixed.

Looking at the Jetpack dashboard, on the connections tab – the Site Connection appears to be connected however it is the Account Connection that I don’t seem to be able to connect. Still just getting – We’re sorry, but an unexpected error has occurred when I click Connect Your WordPress.com Account

Yers not sure the XML-RPC is the problem. Just wish I could get to the bottom of it!

    Hi @blissicecreamparlour ,

I can confirm that your site’s Jetpack connection looks good from our end.

However, you are still facing some issues on your dashboard from what you have mentioned. In that case, could you reach out to us direct at https://jetpackme.wordpress.com/contact-support/? This way, we can work directly with you on your account-specific issue.

    Hi Deric,

I actually found the cause of the problem on another forum that someone had posted – it seemed to be the Google Ads & Listing plugin causing the problem. So the advice was to disable all plugins except WooCommerce core and the Google ads plugin, then sign into Google Ads account. After that I could activate all plugins and reconnected to my WordPress account via Jetpack!

Thanks for getting back to me though.

    Cheers, Steve
