• Because of a virus I had to delete my previous wordpress website. I now re-installed my theme but all the images appear with a question mark. This is because I had to delete the wp-content/uploads folder. Is there a simple way to reconnect all the media?

    When I put the images back in the upload folder the images still show a question mark.

  • The question mark indicates the exact image filename has not been found.

    Did you recover the thumbnails from the old site as well as the uploaded images?

    For example, my uploaded logo file is at:
    /wp-content/uploads/logo.gif

    but that’s no good, the file that WordPress linked into my page is a thumbnail with my set size:
    /wp-content/uploads/logo-315×310.gif

    You should be able to upload multiple files to the media library in one go. The trick of it will be to ensure your thumbnail settings are the same as they were before, because these dims will form part of the image url in the page source.

    If you don’t have a note of the old thumbnail sizes, you may be able to figure them out from the image urls.
