Recommended plugins or plugin types to install on a freshly installed WordPress?

  • I am completely new to WordPress and was wondering which plugins or plugin types would be recommended to install on a fresh WordPress install?

    I am trying to find my way into this WordPress universe having used Joomla! for our family web site(https://www.kaddu). I am trying to move that site little by little so that I am not overwhelmed or happen to break the whole site making one move.

    My strategy for migrating into WordPress is to first move the different areas – a few at a time – into WordPress sites on subdomains. That way, I hope I can migrate them later to their own domains if and where interest and traffic warrants this.

    So please feel free to comment on any of the above and especially some recommendations about “need to have” and “nice to have” plugins. For the time being I will be looking at free plugins perhaps with freemium options but when I get further and if a feature warrants it, I would be happy to try out paid/premium features, subscriptions and plugins and themes!

  • That’s a really broad question. There are many thousands of plugins that do many different things. You first need to narrow down what functionality you need – for example a contact form, SEO optimizer, security, etc. Then search the Plugins repository for one that is popular, well-reviewed, and regularly updated.
