In the Changelog for 7.1.05 you mention ‘Unused depot folders will now automatically be deleted’. What does this exactly mean? What are ‘Unused depot folders’? We have noticed that a few folders seem to be missing from the wp-content folder.

    This is about …/wp-content/wppa-depot/username
They are only used for the Import page, so they are now removed for users that have no rights for the Photo albums -> Import photos admin page.

Okay, I see. This explains why they are missing. One of my users has created a website and has been using the /wp-content/wppa-depot/ folder to store some data files that are used in the website. We need a work around for this. I backed off to an earlier version of WPPA+.

If I create new users with the same name as the folders in the depot and give then upload rights, is it safe to assume that those folders are safe and won’t be deleted?

This would be a temporary situation until those folders were moved elsewhere. They tell me that this will involve a huge amount of work.

has been using the /wp-content/wppa-depot/ folder to store some data files

It is not recommended to use any plugin defined things for something else…

If I create new users with the same name as the folders in the depot and give then upload rights

Ok, but give them Import rights, upload rights wont do it! (See Table VII-A, 3rd column), or give them the capability ‘wppa_import’ using a plugin that can add capabilities to individual users, or create a specific role for them, and give the role this capability.

Most important though: After setting that up, the folder is created when the user first opens the Photo Albums -> Import Photos admin page.
Keep the capability alive, otherwise wppa will remove the folder later on again.

I very much agree that plugin defined items should not be used for anything but what they were created for.

This what I would like to do to as a temporary measure until we can resolve their problems.

They created 3 folders in the /wp-content/wppa-depot/ plugin folder. I will create 3 new users with the exact same name as those folders. They will be of type ‘Author’. In Table VII-A, the only capability that they will be given is ‘Import’. These new accounts will NEVER login.

Will this preserve the files that are currently in those folders?

Or, do I need to let WPPA create the folder first, do some initializing and then move the files into it?

    No. This will do it.

Thanks! Will give this a try and move forwards.

I should let you know that this procedure worked. It is admittedly a work around. Thanks for your input.
