    Hi,

Sorry to hear you are experiencing problems.

I’ve just checked the downloads stats, 114 000 websites have updated since the last update without problems. So it must be something tied specifically to your setup, or a configuration that is not very common.

What are your PHP version and WordPress version?

If during the update some files were not updated due to a glitch on your site, it could be the plugin files are not complete. To check this, you could try downloading the zip file and upload the unzipped files to your site using FTP.

Can you describe what the problem is you are experiencing? e.g. redirect loop, http 500 error, etc?

Please also share a screenshot of the issue and the domain.

If you have a http 500 error, you can enable debugging:

This information will enable us to help you.

    Hi Rogier,
    Thanks for your quick reply!

Actually it was all related to installing a new SSL certificate. Hosting support person put the “cause” on your plugin. I updated the plugin, activated it and then the page went down. I could not access the wp-admin page, or the website itself. Contacted the hosting company via chat — they eventually pinned the cause on your plugin, said they deleted your it, but did not touch the few others that were there — except that they had all been deactivated… So now they are installing SSL directly, without use of your plugin. I am able to get back to the admin panel and the website is back as well. It has yet to be completed.

I have a few other websites to update, all with existing SSLs, so I’ll see what happens when I update the ones that have your plugin.

    Hosting is with HostGator —

    Cheers!

    Thanks for the update!

Let me know if you run into any problems. If there are any issues and you need to deactivate to regain access, you can always do so using the force deactivate script:
    https://really-simple-ssl.com/knowledge-base/uninstall-websitebackend-not-accessible/

But far as I know there are no compatibility issues with Hostgator.

    Hi,

I cannot access my webpage admin after downloading really simmple ssl. The error I get is:

This site can’t provide a secure connection travellittleknownplaces.com uses an unsupported protocol.
    ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH

I tried your recommendation to use Filezilla and change to force deactivate php but it already is at that.

    Please advise.

    Thank you,
    Shirley

It looks like your SSL certificate is not configured correctly. If you purchased the certificate from you hosting company they will know how to fix this.

Please note that renaming the deactivation file to php is not enough: you should also execute the url in the browser, as per the instructions here:
    https://really-simple-ssl.com/knowledge-base/uninstall-websitebackend-not-accessible/

The deactivation procedure will remove all changes Really Simple SSL has made. You can double check this by following these instructions:
    https://really-simple-ssl.com/knowledge-base/when-the-built-in-deactivation-does-not-work-manual-uninstalling/

In most cases it comes down to reverting the home_url to http.

If this is already done, and the site is still redirecting to https, I would check your wp-config.php for any custom FORCE_SSL_ADMIN definitions, or site URL definitions.

Really Simple SSL will always redirect sitewide, not only the back-end, so as your site is currently only redirecting on the login page, it looks like there’s a custom redirect active.

Wow, this is really confusing. I went into filezilla and pulled everything up. There is no Really Simple SSL plugin listed, but there is Simple CSV/XLS Exporter and SSL Insecure Content Fixer. I am not sure what to do. Please advise.

If you didn’t use Really Simple SSL, then there are no changes by Really Simple SSL to revert. In that case this has been done another way, either with another plugin, or by custom code. Removing this custom code and deactivating the plugin might help, but as I don’t know these plugins or this code, I can’t help you with that.

As part of a generic revert http process, you can still try checking all steps in the manual deactivation article.

    I’m having the same issue.
Installed the Really Simple SSL plugin then activated it and it broke my site and also can’t log into WordPress.

It’s impossible to say what is causing this without more information. It can be a server configuration, or an SSL certificate issue, a memory issue, or something else.

You can check your ssl certificate on https://ssllabs.com/ssltest

You can roll back the activation of the plugin by following these instructions:
    https://really-simple-ssl.com/knowledge-base/uninstall-websitebackend-not-accessible/

If you can post screenshots of the actual issue, and maybe the domain, this will help me determine the issue. You can also contact support directly at https://really-simple-ssl.com/support, and we can help you with your issue.
