First and foremost – thanks so much for your work on this plugin. Its perfect for an organization like the one I’m working with, and we’d be lost without you!

We employed your plugin early last year and had used it without problems until recently. An update (I don’t know if its a WordPress or Theme Update, I’m sorry) caused the button to stop showing on our site. I’ve tried many different things to get the button to show, including disabling other plugins, reinstalling, changing button types, etc, but to no avail… The button is just gone. And as best I can tell, its not even being rendered with the page.

Any chance you’d be willing to take a glance and offer any guidance you might have?

    Many thanks!

  • Version 1.6.0 worked. Thank you for responding so quickly. Very impressive.

@dawnwidmayer Glad that version worked! I dont see any reason for the older version of the plugin to stop working due to a wordpress update. I think you’re pretty safe using that version for a while. I plan a complete rebuild of the plugin in the future to address the weirdness that is wordpress themes. That’s probably gonna be in version 2.0 so its a bit of a ways away.

Nothing drives me more crazy than needing tech support for something and not getting it when you need it haha so I try to be on top of the support when I can!

Hey @empulse, @dawnwidmayer and @kunstudios would any of you be open to beta testing an updated version of the plugin? I think I have solved the display issues once and for all. If you are interested please download the zip here: https://github.com/tomascordero/safety-exit/archive/refs/tags/1.7.0-beta.zip Ideally you would see no changes in your button! Let me know if you encounter any issues!

    Thanks!

Hey @tcordero, I spun this up this morning but I don’t have anything positive to report.

Same results – No “X” — However, this file is labeled 1.7.0, but WordPress (and safety-exit.php) say 1.6.5. I figured you may have just modified the code and not changed the version within, but I wanted to make sure that the wrong folder didn’t get packaged up for testing.

I’m not sure if you can glean any info from it running alongside my theme, but I’ll leave the “new version” running for the remainder of the workday so you might have a chance to glance at it if needed. https://dvrcnm.org

Oh you know what that built the old version… Try this one: https://github.com/tomascordero/safety-exit/archive/refs/heads/Update-button-renderer.zip

@empulse weird the old javascript is still being pulled in. What version does the plugins page show is installed for safety exit? It should say 1.7.0-beta. If its not the 1.7.0-beta version try to rename the existing safety exit plugin folder something like “safety-exit-live” and install the new one.

Whoops – Caching issue, I guess?

I cycled my caching plugin (Comet Cache) and things seem to be working as expected now. (Version 1.7.0-beta)

Oh nice! I wonder if the front end is still caching. When I visit the page this version of the JS loads: https://dvrcnm.org/wp-content/plugins/safety-exit/assets/js/frontend.js?ver=6.3.1 but when I remove the ver=6.3.1 it loads the new js file.

Just cleared my browser cache and it worked! So far everything seems good to go on the button front! What do you think?

Seems to be perfect on this end, @tcordero . Thank you so much for the awesome support. It’s a tiny little tool, but it really could make a big difference for someone! 1000 thank-yous!

Am I safe to just keep this version installed and then update the next time WordPress alerts me?

@empulse glad it’s working!! And yeah you can keep using it if you want. I’ll be making the official release soonish! WordPress should notify you when I do.
