Recent post outside wordpress

Hello,
I have searched everywhere and tried several tutorials to add a recent post to my homepage (valeradesign.net), which is located outside of wordpress blog that I have installed on my site. The typical setup seems to be to download recent post plugin, place it in the wordpress directory and add a few lines of code to your wordpress page. However, like I mentioned my website is not part of wordpress. So, that did not work for me. Unfortunately, I have zero knowledge of coding. Do I have to edit the php plugin file to reroute it to the wordpress folder? I have no idea ??
If anyone could help, that would be freaking awesome.
