"RECENT COMMENTS" shows only 5 comments?

At the setting page of “RECENT COMMENTS” it says, Show the most recent comments, and in that field you can write the number of posts you want displayed in the sidebar. Howerver, when chosing for example ten comments, only five are displayed. In fact it always displays 5 comments. Any idea? Thanks for help!
