recent comments and recent posts in sidebar

There is NO wordpress function for displaying either of those.

If you have you looked at your dashboard then Im assuming you’ve seen the recent comments and recent posts then on that page…

The file that generates that is called wp-admin/index.php and if you open that file and look at the source, you will see that both recent comments and recent posts are called via a basic SQL query.

There is a plug-in called Get Recent Comments. I found it a long time ago under Extend > Plugins > comments. It’s very useful.

thats a plugin. My answer is correct. A plugin is NOT a core wordpress function. If there were a core function already, a plugin wouldn’t be needed now would it?

Thanks to all…got the plugin working except I am trying to figure out how to remove the “:” from the beginning of each listing. But works good gor comments. I’ll go looking for a “recent posts” plugin now.

greatsales–Did you look at the ‘postbypost’ type parameter for the template tag, wp_get_archives() or the Recent Posts plugin link that whooami provided?

Another recent posts plugin which I have been using for a long time now is “Fuzzy Recent Posts”.
