Recencio Book Review is perhaps the most perfect plugin for its application on the site I am developing. There is a problem, and I am not sure if this has been discussed here before (I did look). The most colourful and condensed presentation is the search grid. However, this may be a problem for those with a huge number of book reviews. The site intends to hold in excess of 300 book reviews.
Critically, what is needed, and I am sure it must have been suggested, is the ability to set out the grid in the number of columns and lines the website would like to display, rather than a very long grid which becomes a little meaningless beyond a page. The search and filtering appears to be good. On my site, I would like to display about 10 columns and say 5-6 lines of the grid. I would like these to be displayed in reverse publication order too – so the latest books float to the top.
Is there any hope of these enhancements?

Just an idea… could the display images/links on the grid be controlled by one of the search filter items being set to default… for example the grid only displays reviews with the genre ‘featured’?

    Hello @zimbandrew,
    Sorry about the delayed response.

I’ll look into the suggestions you’ve made, however I can’t make any promises as to if or when I can implement them. The sort-able grid feature is implemented using a 3rd party JavaScript library, so your feature request may be limited by what is possible with the Isotope JS library.

Thank you, much appreciated… I realise these ideas are not always feasible. Rome was not built in a day either!

Hi, I agree with the original post. Your Recencio Book Review plugin is an excellent piece of work, and manages book reviews quite well. But I have the same issue. I will have hundreds of book reviews and the grid will become unmanageable.
As a suggestion, rather than modify the JavaScript library underlying it, would it be possible to provide a parameter in the setup to limit the number of books passed to the grid and therefore, shown? If a user could use set a number and pass the first nn books (that are active posts) to the grid, it would solve the issue.
That way, I could have hundreds of book reviews and tell the system to pass only 50 or so to the grid. Of course, this would only work if the grid still correctly sorted on all active posts and displayed the correct books in the result set.
Either way, still a marvelous plugin, thanks.

    Hello @raderdeyn

If I remember correctly, this featured had a built-in limit of 500 reviews, then I removed this limit at a user’s request.

I’ll add a new shortcode parameter to set this limit in the next update.

    Thank you @w33zy and @raderdeyn

Limiting the number of reviews displayed in the grid, while enabling the search function to perform on all the reviews done will be a perfect solution.

Much appreciate the time and effort put into this by all… I re-iterate, its an excellent plug-in.

    Hello @zimbandrew and @raderdeyn

This featured has been added in the new update, the default is now 50 reviews and you can change this with the count e.g., [rcno-sortable-grid count=100]
