• There has been a time when everything was tip top and no spam email was ever getting through. Now though, for the past few months we have been getting occasional spam email via a contact form on our website.

The spam seems to come from his browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/67.0.3396.87 Safari/537.36 OPR/54.0.2952.51

The contents of the message usually contain russian text with a text based link.

My suspicion is that under certain circumstances, your plugin doesn’t prompt the user with the captcha code.

Has anyone experienced the same lately?

  • Clearly, google recaptcha does not stop any spam anymore.

We encountered the same problem on several of our websites lately. Although Google Invisible Recaptcha v2 was active on the contact page several thousand spam mails got through yesterday.

Interestingly on one site I had not changed anything but recaptcha seems to work since midnight again. There are no spam mails sent from the contact form anymore but the form is still submitted about every 10s by the spambot. The mail log of the webserver has no further entries of sent spam mails, too.

This seems to hint to a temporary failure of the Google recaptcha.
