Receiving Error: "Unable to locate WordPress Content directory (wp-content)."

  • Since upgrading to 4.4 the other night, I have been unable to update any of my plugins or themes. I am receiving the following error:

    An error occurred while updating [plugin or theme name]: Unable to locate WordPress Content directory (wp-content).

    I haven’t made any changes to my hosting setup or permissions, and other sites I own that have not been upgraded to 4.4 work fine. Please help!
