    After a fair bit of troubleshooting, and not quite sure what got stuck where, but it was a recurring issue on multiple sites (and seeing others reporting the same), if you are receiving an error like Invalid site key or not loaded in (or the reCAPTCHA icon not showing up in the corner of your website), please try the following:

    Login to reCAPTCHA
    Select the site having issues (if you have multiple sites)
    Click the little cogwheel i nthe top right corner to access the setting for your site.
    Validate the Domains you’ve added are correct (remember, if you have www.mysite.com, just adding mysite.com will cover both domains)

    Once that’s done, there is a checkbox labeled “Verify the origin of reCAPTCHA solutions”, it is recommended to have this box checked, this is where the problem started for my sites.

    What I did was untick the box here, save, load my contact form and made sure things were working as expected, then I ticked the box again, saved once more so that the feature was enabled, and now my contact form works as expected, with reCAPTCHA, as expected.

    But when I re-ticked the “Verify the origin of reCAPTCHA solutions” option it stopped working again and still failed after I un-ticked the option.

    Then the only way I could find to fix it was to create a new set of keys.
