reCAPTCHA v2 checkbox not loading with PHP 8

    Is anyone having problems with reCAPTCHA v2 checkbox on servers running PHP 8?

    I have Forminator installed on a few sites on servers running PHP 7.4 using the reCAPTCHA v2 checkbox spam filter – and they work just fine (* as long as I disable “Load form using AJAX” which doesn’t play well with some other plugins – notably Slim SEO).

    But on one particular server that’s running PHP 8.0.17 if I update Forminator past v 1.15.4 reCAPTCHA simply doesn’t load. I’ve tried uninstalling other plugins and switching to a WP vanilla theme: no change. I can roll back to PHP 7.4 but I’d rather fix the problem.

    Also – I’m NOT using Divi. This is a customized child theme for GeneratePress.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi @blackcapdesign,

    Could we know what version of WordPress you are running on? At the moment, there aren’t any known issues reported with the mentioned PHP version and Forminator.

    The latest version of Forminator v 1.15.12 should work fine with PHP 8.0.17. I gave a quick test and I cannot replicate any issue with the v2 checkbox when tested.

    Could you please confirm a full conflict test is performed? ie disabled all the plugins except Forminator and with a default WP Theme? I only see you mention about uninstalling plugins, so making sure a conflict test is performed.

    If you still face issues even after that then please do share the form export, so that we could have a better idea.

    Thanks for your quick reply! Site is running WP 5.9.3. I’ve already completed a conflict test. I’m wondering if there might a missing PHP extension. (Not my server, so I have limited access to what is and isn’t installed with PHP 8). Thanks for confirming there are no known issues. I will report back if / when I isolate the problem.

    I also suggest enabling the Query monitor plugin to verify if it is showing any warning or notice

    Just a heads up. I took your advice and installed Query Monitor to troubleshoot. The plugin looked really promising – tons of useful info BUT it crashed the site: Internal Server Error. Perhaps more evidence of a problem with PHP 8. When time permits I’ll do more testing on this reCAPTCHA problem & will report back.

    I’m still looking into this; it’s a slow process since I don’t have access to the necessary server settings. I’ll follow up when I know more.
