reCAPTCHA over-aggressively flagging everything as spam
-
This is a bit of an odd one, but I noticed that all emails coming through this contact form were being flagged as spam. Absolutely every thing from August through to now.
Messages that should have been (or are) spam were coming through as non-spam up until around the end of July, and then after that everything was being marked as spam. Unfortunately not a massively high volume, so difficult to diagnose exact dates when this changed.
I could turn off reCAPTCHA and then things would start submitting again normally, but I would get configuration issues with the form.
To fix this, I deleted the reCAPTCHA account, and created a new account / regenerated another API key to use. I’ve since re-setup reCAPTCHA (v3), and it seems to be working as-normal again. I also cleared the cache of the site (Cloudways – Varnish cache, along with Hummingbird cache). I’ve since turned off Varnish from Cloudways.
Would there be any reason for this? And how do I try and manage this so I don’t run in to these issues again?
