With the option for “Enable reCAPTCHA on the login and user registration pages” enabled, when any user tries to register on the user registration page, they get the following error:

REGISTRATION BLOCKED: The registration request was blocked because it was flagged as spam. Please try again or contact the site owner for help.

When the reCAPTCHA option is disabled, the registration goes through ok. What can I do to debug (and resolve) this issue?

  • I just started a topic on this too – same issue. I’ve tried to adjust the “threshold score” to the right of the page, however it had no effect. After searching this forum, we’re not alone.

I have asked in Captcha V2 would solve this from happening?

Hello @stoelwinder and thanks for reaching out to us!

@themuttfactor your issue is a little different. I have responded in your thread and will assist you there.

As for your issue @stoelwinder you might want to try lowering your threshold in the Login Security Settings or running in test mode.

    https://www.wordfence.com/help/login-security/#captcha-options

    reCAPTCHA human/bot threshold score
You can adjust the threshold used by the captcha if it is too strict or too lenient for your site. The default value is 0.5. You can use the score history chart described below to see the typical scores for your site. If valid users are sometimes blocked by the captcha, you can set the score lower to 0.4 or 0.3 if necessary. If bots are being allowed too often, you can raise the score to 0.6 or 0.7 for example.

What might be happing is the Recaptcha is thinking the login is a bot login and blocking it.

Let me know how it goes!

    Thanks again!

Unfortunately in my case all people automatically get 0.0, including myself..

It may be important to note that when I view the registration page, I do not see the “captcha” logo, so it could just be that it is not displaying. I tried in both Chrome and Safari but neither allows me to complete registration.

Sorry for the delayed response @stoelwinder. I did not have the alert me option selected for this thread – I have changed that.

Are you using the default wp-login/wp-admin page or are you using something custom? Our 2FA/Captcha is designed to only work on the wp-login/wp-admin pages and wont work correctly on a Custom URL.

    Let me know!

    Thanks again!

No worries about the slow response.

I do not specifically use something custom, but I did install the following plugins and do some customizations:

    1. Ban Hammer
    Dont think this changes anything

    2. Limit Login Attempts Reloaded
Again, dont think this changes the page

    3. WPS Hide Login
This changes the default login to a different URL first, but once you’re on the correct page, it should allow direct access using the default url.

I do know that using WPS Hide Login will break out Login Security features.

Can you send a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com? You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

I might be able to do some tests on my end to see what’s going on.

    Thanks again!

Disabling WPS Hide Login seems to fix it, although not ideal. Thanks for helping out.
