Yesterday when I logged into our site’s wp admin, I saw the nag banner to reauthenticate, as current authentication was ending in 4 days. I did so, and the connection was shown as authenticated on the plugin’s Connection tag, with a next-authentication date of 11/9/23. However, when I logged in today, I again saw the same banner nagging me to re-authenticate. The authentication date from yesterday on the Connection tab was still showing as 11/9/23, so I tried clearing the site cache, but the banner didn’t clear, so I clicked the link in the banner to authenticate again. This time when the reauthentication process completed, the connection showed as authenticated, but with a PAST next-authentication date of 6/11/23! I tried authenticating again, but the past date remained. I have to say, the authentication process is not very user friendly, jumping from tab to tab within the plugin with no instructions on what we are supposed to do there. However, I saved settings on Profile, approved the required permissions on the LinkedIn screen, saved the settings on the Sharing Options screen, and then visited the Connect tab to make confirm authentication. Here is the log info. What do I need to do to get a next-authentication date in the future instead of the past. It was working as it should yesterday.

    Hi @syzygist,

Sorry if the process isn’t straight forward. It sounds like you re-authenticated ok and no further action is needed.

I just want to clarify, our plugin will show a banner when it’s time to re-authenticate. But just clicking on the button itself in the banner, this won’t re-authenticate, it should just take you to the plugin settings page when you can then re-authenticate. To re-authentivate or re-connect you just need to go to the “Connect” tab in the plugin settings and then click the “Connect with LinkedIn” button and follow the prompts, and then once you are returned back to the website it’s all done/good.

Sorry for the confusion, I will look at improving the messaging in a future release.

The reauthentication process would be a lot clearer if the link in the banner took you to the Connection tab where reauthentication happens, rather than to the Sharing Options tab. But you have not addressed my concern about the Connections tab now showing that my next authentication date is 2 months in the past instead of 2 months in the future.

    Hi @syzygist,

Can you send a screenshot of what that notice looks showing that the next authentication date is 2 months in the past as oppose to future? Please note, I think that this date is in d/m/y format so non-US format, so do note this as this may explain the issue.

We have a feature in the plugin that remembers the last tab in the settings you were on to make things easier for people if they are going backwards and forwards a lot, but I can see when it comes to re-authenticating, this feature get’s in the way a little, so I will consider how this could be improved.

    Thanks,

Apparently I can’t send a screenshot since they have switched this forum to the block editor. But I don’t think the date format is the issue, since the date it showed the first time I re-authenticated on Sept 6 was 11/09/23, so why would it switch date formats upon a second attempt the very next day? It showed a reauthentication date of 11/09/23 on Sept. 6. Does it make sense that it would suddenly switch date formats and show a date of 06/11/23 on Sept. 7th? Even if it did switch date formats for some reason, and you assume Nov. 6th was really meant the second time, why would it give me a reauthentication date 3 days EARLIER on Sept. 7th than it gave me on Sept. 6th? Wouldn’t the reauthentication date be 1 day later?

    Hi @syzygist,

What you can do is upload an image here: https://imgur.com/upload and put in the link of your image in your reply. It’s very hard to explain what you are seeing without being in the same room with you and knowing everything that has happened. I think as long as it is connected ok, don’t worry too much. The authentication needs to be done every 60 days. What I normally do is create a recurring calendar event (or reminder) for re-authentication. If you do that, you will be fine. Thanks,
