Hello. Is there a way to paste text from Word and have Blocks RETAIN the bold and italics formatting? Or a process of pasting it elsewhere first. I want to KEEP the bold and italics, Not erase them.

I post long articles at times, and it is a nightmare having to go back in and find and redo every bold or italics. I cannot find an option in the editor or a forum post about this topic.

I am in Chrome, on Windows 10, using the latest WordPress (6.7.1), and I use the latest Astra Theme (4.8.11) with a Child Theme.

Which editor do you work with in WordPress?

@threadi I use the visual block editor. If that is what you mean?
I don’t do HTML in the classic editor.

And I am sorry if that is not the right answer, I am not fully tech savvy.

With the Block Editor there should be no problems inserting text from Word. Do you also insert the texts as blocks? Do you simply paste them from the clipboard? Or what is your procedure?

@threadi I would normally select the Classic Block then paste the text which I copied from my Word Doc.
I use the Ctrl+V. But the same problem happens when I use the button “paste as text.”
In either case, all the bold and italics are removed.
The same problem happens if I just click within the new block, where it says “Type/ to choose a block.”

Before the previous update, as I mentioned, the Classic Block would keep all the text in one block, including the bold and italics, and I could add media (images) within the block so I got nice text wrapping. But now WordPress Block Editor changes the pasted text to mulitple paragraph blocks and removes my bold and italics.

Does this tell you what you need to know?
    Thanks so much.

As far as I know, the Classic Block is at the same level as the Classic Editor. And it has always had problems accepting pre-formatted texts from other applications. If you insert the texts normally in the Block Editor, this should work more smoothly.

@threadi I appreciate you taking the time to reply. However, I have been pasting formatted text into the Classic Block for 4 years, and it has worked perfectly. I am only posting here because it is no longer working.

“If you insert the texts normally in the Block Editor, this should work more smoothly.”
What do you mean by “normally”?
If you mean just pasting directly into the first bar that appears, or by first choosing a Paragraph Block, neither option works – both erase all bold and italics. Hence me posting here in the first place.

I don’t mean to sound ungrateful, but if you do not know this about the Paragraph Block, and if you don’t know that the Classic Block has been working perfectly for at least 4 years, why did you reply here in the first place?
    Cheers
