I found something extremely wonky with the way this plugin handles languages. After a quick search through the support forums, it seems I am not the only one.

As none of the other issues seemed to be resolved w/o hacking into the core files, I thought it best to share my findings here.

The main issues seems to be something like

“The translation exists in the .po and .mo files, but it’s not showing up”.

This is because the way the languages are being loaded is not according to WordPress Standards. This plugin does NOT use the language settings of the logged in user for many (not all) of the admin interface, but rather the default language of the user’s browser.

So, if you want to check different languages, you can not simply log in as a different user, or switch the default language of WordPress… you need to change the browser’s default language like it’s 2004 all over again.

Hope this helps other devs out there.

    Hi @twinpictures

    Thanks for reaching out!

The forum thread you shared doesn’t really relate to the issue, as that one has to do with Polylang, and not simply using the site in a different language. Unless your issue is also with Polylnag, which was not stated. ??

Also, we have been testing changing languages a lot, and the languages not showing never came up as an issue.

So, if you want to check different languages, you can not simply log in as a different user, or switch the default language of WordPress… you need to change the browser’s default language …

I would be happy if you could share a screen recording demonstrating this because I have not been able to recreate this behavior.
When trying to recreate it, please use a fresh WordPress install and have a default theme, like twentysixteen or twentytwenty active, and only The Events Calendar. That will help us better understand the issue.

    Thanks!
    Andras
