    Hey everyone,

I found videos where they show how I can rearrage Meta boxes on editors site.
I am using WP Verion: Version 5.2.2; I can not move the Metaboxes at all. I can only choose whether I want them to appeared or not.
Is this right or am I completely wrong?

Also, if moving them is actually possible, is there an option to set a paticular order as an admin; so no other user can move it.

    Thanks to everyone!

  • The classic metaboxes shown in the classic editor can be moved around, and the order is saved in the user meta table, so no other user is affected by the order you choose.
The block editor uses different code for its boxes, although if legacy metaboxes are registered, something different happens (not sure how that is handled). The new boxes are not movable.

    Thanks to to you!

Obviously the reason in my case was the Block editor. I will switch to Classic Editor.

I don’t want to allow other users to change the position. Is there anyway to predefined the position by the admin, and then fixed it so the user cannot change it?

If you don’t want them moved, just use the block editor. The classic editor allows movement and in Screen Options, you can hide or show some. To disable all that, you would need to remove the script, and it probably is together with the script that opens and closes the boxes; not sure what else the script does.

If I remove the Classic Editor Plugin for good and activate the Block Editor only, all other users will not be able to use the classic editor any longer – is this right?

i promise, this is the last question. ??

If you do continue to use the classic editor, the screen options dictating which metaboxes are visible, and the positions of the metaboxes are saved on a per-use basis, so each person using the site can have the (Classic) editor set up to their preference without affecting other admins.

Even without the classic editor plugin, if you create a custom post type that does not use the REST API, the classic editor is used (it is still part of WP).

With the classic editor plugin, you can let the authors choose which editor they prefer, but once the block editor is used on a post, that is the one that is opened.
