    WordPress 5.3.1
    Contact Form 7 5.1.6
    Really Simple CAPTCHA 2.0.2

The form on this page was working fine. I added the lower block for the captcha and this works as well — sort of. When [Send] is clicked and an incorrect captcha is entered, the message “Your entered code is incorrect” is displayed below the field, as expected. However, when a correct captcha is entered, the message is always properly emailed. However, on a rare occasion it will display the message “Your message was sent successfully. Thanks!” as it should. Most of the time the little working spinner displays and never stops (it will run indefinitely) and no completion message is ever displayed.

I’ve tested this on Firefox, Chromium, Opera on Linux and Firefox, Chromium and Edge on Windows and I get the same results: an occasional completion, but mostly it hangs. Since this didn’t happen prior to adding the captcha, I think this must be the source of the problem.

Has anyone seen this and is there a fix?

P.S.: I have another WordPress site that uses almost the identical configuration and the form always works, displaying the “sent successfully” message in every case.

When [Send] is clicked, the form content are mailed as expected.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

What other plugins and theme do you use on the site?

It’s a custom theme. The other active plugins are:

    Admin Menu Editor
    Disable Gutenberg
    Disable Site
    Duplicate Page
    Enable Media Replace
    SEO Ultimate
    UpdraftPlus

I see that Contact Form 7 just pushed out an update to 5.1.7. I updated and retested. At this moment, on Linux, the form completes properly on Firefox, but is still hanging on Opera and Chromium. This is after clearing the cache before testing. I suspect that at a later time, it would also hang on Firefox as i have observed in recent testing.

By the way, I replaced Really Simple Captcha with Math Captcha and the spinning problem continues, so I think this is a problem with Contact Form 7 and not the Captcha routine.

As I predicted, the spinning is back on Firefox, so I’m pretty sure the problem is really browser-independent.

Try switching to the default theme and deactivating all other plugins.

    Takayuki:

Thanks very much for the feedback. In the meantime, needing to get the client’s site working, I switched over to WPForms and started using the Google reCAPTCHA. After some struggling, I got this to work.

I still have Contact Form 7 and Really Simple CAPTCHA running on my other site with no problems.

    Again, thanks for the help.
