Really devs? Update overwrites custom CSS cookie notice

I get you are upset but keep these forums family friendly.

What CSS are you referring to? How are you queuing up your custom CSS to override the plugin’s?

The update just resets all custom set CSS and text for the Opt-out Message.
I am talking about this:

All my code was reset to default CSS for all my sites. I changed layout, colors, text for every site I maintain. Gone.

This is ridiculous. The dev resets to CSS that is written sloppy…

The text gets cut on the screen edge. The layout is ugly.
I fixed all, and now it got reset on all sites.

Right, except a picture doesn’t do anything for me and my spam control blocks half the things on that site.

I’m guessing you put it into Customize -> Additional CSS on your site or are you using code to do that?

No. Not the additional CSS.

Hi T-Ryder (and Jan),

apologies for the inconvenience. This is still an experimental feature and we are working out a few kinks to implement all the feedback we’ve received from our users. We will try and limit any changes in the future, to make sure all the custom settings are preserved. Please make sure to test any new update on a sandbox before pushing it to a production environment.

A plugin in my opinion should
– not just change or overwrite custom code without warning
– be tested by devs before pushing an update
– should be OK to install without testing it in a sandbox WP install
– not break stuff if customers update stuff on their own resulting in more work for the website creator

I am glad I had a backup of the code and all I had to do is log in to all my customers websites and change the code again and change minor stuff like colors, font styles, links, shapes…

If I know that your next update will destroy my code again and screws up the cookie banner for all my customers, I should really uninstall your plugin before my customers update stuff again.

Apologies again for the inconvenience. We already pushed the fix to our Github repo, if you want to test it in advance. Please make sure to deactivate the option to load the javascript tracker from the JsDelivr CDN, if you do that.

The new version will be pushed to the WordPress repo later today. All of this doesn’t justify your aggressive approach, though. Please keep in mind that we are not getting paid to provide this service and that we test things as much as we can. However, whenever we ask the community to help us test new releases, we rarely get any volunteers. Oh well…

“All of this doesn’t justify your aggressive approach, though.” – my feedback was not nice, but it was honest. I apologized for being rude – and if it would not be a lot of work (looking for alternatives and bla bla bla) I would uninstall all of your stuff on any website I created or maintain.

@ryder203 good luck finding any better alternatives that offer the kind of functionality available in Slimstat.
