Readmore button instead of link in posts listing

  • Howdy,
    on other sites I’m managing, I see a ?read more?-button, with me to my knowledge having not done anything to accomplish that, like here: https://www.gruenealte.de
    Is this a feature of the themes I use or a side effect of some plugin?
    I’m not using any explicit plugin to create ?read more?-tags.

  • I think the Read More link is from the theme. Many themes do this, and cause confusion about the “More” tag that WordPress supplies.
    By default, generated excerpts end with […] linking to the post. This is changed with the ‘excerpt_more’ filter.
    The only way it is related to the “More” tag is that it links to the post. It is used in the conditions where the “More” tag is not, as in generated excerpts whereas the “More” tag is only shown on archive pages showing full content.

    Okay, thank you.

    Now I checked, if I can translate ?More? to ?Weiterlesen?, but Loco-Translate doesn’t see this More. In which file can I find and possibly fix this for a child theme? I was only lucky with more in the style.css. ?excerpt_more? wasn’t found at all.

    Would that as well be the place to change the ?…?? I would love to see an space before it, because in German that is the rule: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellipsis#In_German

    It was only my guess that it is your theme, since that is common and you said you don’t have any plugins for it. In that case, you would need to ask your theme’s support forum about it.
