Hi @katzulator , thank you for contacting me about this.

The plugin has a javascript file located here: wp-content/plugins/wp-reading-progress/wp-reading-progress.min.js

You tagged this question with ‘css’, the css is inline though (unless you switched it off in the settings).

Does the reading bar work when you switch off WP-Fastest-Cache?

Can you send me a link to the site or page with the problem, so I can investigate further?

    Kind regards,
    Joeri

    Hi Joeri,

I’ve tried to exclude the wp-content/plugins/wp-reading-progress/wp-reading-progress.min.js in WP Fastest Cache but it did not work.

Does the reading bar work when you switch off WP-Fastest-Cache?
    YES

Can you send me a link to the site or page with the problem, so I can investigate further?

Hi I looked into your site, it seems the cache plugin is not serving the cached version of the javascript correctly. See the attached screenshot. The circled file contains the javascript for the reading bar (I confirmed this by inspecting the source), but it is not served with the correct mime type according to my browser (and probably yours).

The mimetype sent is text/js, but more standard is text/javascript . Maybe this is a setting in the cache plugin? Or you can try if it works better when switched off (a browser will interpret the file itself then). More on mimetypes: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Basics_of_HTTP/MIME_types/Common_types

This week I had not much time, but it looks like I will have some this sunday to look into the wp-fastest-cache plugin and how to make it work. If you find a solution in the meantime, please post it here. Otherwise I will get back to you here.

Hi, I installed WP-Fastest-Cache (the free version) and it works on my site. For the combined js file it sends text/javascript as mime type and the reading progress bar works.

My findings with the cache plugin:
    – It does not work for alternate domains, only for the main domain.
    – I did not find many useful settings, but that might be because I have not paid for premium.

Are you also using the free version? Do you have the most recent version (I have 1.1.9)?
It might also be that another plugin (a javascript / css combine / compression plugin comes to mind) messes up the output in combination with WP-Fastest-Cache. Can you check out if the reading bar works when disabling some other plugin as well? That might give an indication to solve the problem.
Your console should not contain as many errors as in the screenshot of my previous post. In fact, ideally, it should contain 0 errors and warnings. My hunch is when you fix those errors one by one, everything (including the reading progress bar) will work. Let me know if you want any assistance from me. Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,
    Joeri
