• I have a child theme for Twenty Twenty-Three with WP 6.2. I’m using a query loop for a custom post type that includes the Post Excerpt block. The editor shows the Add “read more” link text but there is no way to edit it for the block other than place it on a new line. The link does not show up on the front end at all.

I have also tried the Post Excerpt block with regular posts and have the same result. The link does not show up on the front end.

I seem to remember it working in an earlier version of WP.

Hi @jmikrut62 make sure read more and post excerpt blocks are added inside the Post Template block. If the blocks are not inside the correct Parent block they will not be displayed on the front end.

If that is not the case, can share a link to the page you are working on so that I can take a look at how the content is structured on the page?

    Hi
The text “Add “read more” link text” is an instruction.
If no link text is added, the link does not show.

but there is no way to edit it for the block other than place it on a new line.

The setting to change the text is, as you confirmed, not in the sidebar where the option to place the link on a new line is.
Select the block, place the text marker in the “Add read more link text” instruction, and type the text there.

When the read more is inside the loop, the read more text will be the same for all the results.
