• I am using the free version the events calendar shortcode to list my events on my home page. At the end of each description there is a Read More ? but it is not linked. I thought I could just set the Read More ? to display none since the title is already linked. But the Read More ? does not appear to have any html tags to separate it. What can I do to either get the Read more linked or make the text disappear? Thanks for a great product!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi @mfettinger !

It looks like a plugin or possibly your theme is adding the post title along with “Read more” at the end of the excerpt.

What shortcode are you using or, if you’re using the block, what options are you overriding (if any)? Specifying a shorter excerpt might trim that off, but a better option may be to not have the plugin or theme add it on in the first place.

    Cheers!

Thanks for the very prompt answer. I am using the Astra theme and a shortcode:
    [ecs-list-events month=”next” past=”yes” excerpt=”600″ venue=”true”]

If I reduce the excerpt link to 200, the read more goes away. If I increase it to 250, the read more appears. It also appears for any larger values. I would really like to have the excerpt at least 500 in length. I looked at the source. There are no tags around the Read more. Is there a way to get rid of the Read more if it does not have any tags around it?

    Hi @mfettinger !

The excerpt is created by removing any tags in the description first, since the length of the excerpt couldn’t be specified without the possibility of a tag being cut too soon and breaking the page. As such there’s not really a way to remove it easily without stopping whatever is adding it in the first place or adding some kind of custom code to filter it out. You can find out what is adding it by temporarily disabling plugins and switching to a default theme (ensure you have a backup first in case of any issues re-activating things afterwards). If you find which plugin is adding that we may be able to come up with a workaround, but chances are you’ll need to reach out to the author of it to see what can be done.

The pro version does have additional options like raw_description which would keep the text intact, but does not allow the length to be specified:

    Hope that clarifies!
