‘Read More’ going to dead links

    Maybe I’m just missing something simple but the generate link when adding the testimonial as well as the live page ‘read more’ for all of our testimonials are reporting a ‘404 page not found’ error. Any thoughts as to how to fix this? Thanks!

    Hey @accessmorocco!

    That sounds like a no fun problem!

    Are you using the excerpts, or the view more testimonials link? It has an impact on the answer is why I ask.

    If you are using Excerpts, so that the links are something like: https://www.website.com/testimonial/a-great-testimonial/

    but you are experiencing a 404 then it sounds like your permalinks need to be updated. Usually this is done automatically, but sometimes you need to go to the general permalinks settings page and click save to get them to update. If for some reason they are unable to update, there should be a message on this page explaining it.

    If you are using the View More Testimonials link, then you will want to be sure the link is not malformed. This link is controlled on our options page (Easy Testimonials Settings >> Display Options >> View More Testimonials Link) and is intended for you to input a fully qualified URL to link the user to. If this link is set incorrectly it could be causing a 404.

    Hi Richard,

    Sorry about the length of time in responding. We have been putting out other fires-so to speak-so I hadn’t gotten around to fixing this. I had sent a response but had just responded in email and I don’t think it every got to you. So I was waiting on a response that never got to you! Here is what I wrote:

    Thanks for the response. Yes, I have the settings to have excerpts for the read more. An example of the auto generated permalink is: https://www.moroccoaccessibletravel.com/testimonial/eugene-patron/

    They used to work and I just tried one after adding a review and it gave a ‘404’ and so I tried the rest and they all were broken links. I may revamp this and instead of them having an individual review page, going to a ‘master page’ of all of our reviews. Not sure if this is possible with Easy Testimonials.

    That said, ideally I’d like to link to the individual full review from an excerpt and once there have a link that says “Read More Testimonials” which I think I can do without a problem by just building another page and adding that hyperlink. But what I am not seeing is where to go to find the “permalink settings page”. I have looked through all the settings tabs and am not finding it. Can you give some more specific instructions regarding it?
