As previously announced, Universal Analytics will stop processing new visits starting July 1, 2023.

Google is now launching support for AMP (and therefore Web Stories) in Google Analytics 4 (GA4), our analytics platform of record. We recommend switching to Google Analytics 4 immediately.

Starting with version 1.33.0 of the Web Stories plugin, users will be able to use GA4 by entering their GA4 measurement ID.

What do I need to do?

If you haven’t already done so, create a new Google Analytics 4 property for your site.

After that, in the Web Stories plugin, go to Settings and enter your GA4 measurement ID (e.g., G-12345) in the Analytics section.

That’s it! From now on, all analytics data will be sent to your new GA4 property.

Please note that it might take a while for the data to trickle in in your analytics dashboard.

If you need any help migrating from Universal Analytics to Google Analytics 4, please consult the Analytics help center.

What do I need to do if I am using Site Kit?

Site Kit is the official WordPress plugin from Google for insights about how people find and use your site.

If you are using Site Kit and Web Stories together, Site Kit handles all the analytics configuration. While it supports GA4, support for GA4 in AMP / Web Stories will be added in a future release.

Reach out to Site Kit support if you have any questions in that regard.

Why did it take Google so long to add support for GA4?

We tested a variety of ways to support AMP (and thus Web Stories) in GA4 and took the time to ensure the solution we recommend provides the right support for AMP users.

  • It was most awaited web stories plugin update since last week.

If possible, I expect a separate AMP analytics section in the Google Analytics GA4 dashboard.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

I made the switch to G4 around 20 hours ago and i just noticed that some of my web stories pages are still with the UA property on it.

I′m didn′t use Google′s site kit to set it up. I just swapped the UA Property ID for the G4 Measurement ID on your settings.

Do you know how long does it take for the G4 measurement ID propagate to all my stories?

@outrogui Please open a dedicated support topic and we’re happy to assist you there. Ideally include the URL of an affected story. Once you entered the new measurement ID, the change should be instant. If you still see the old UA tracking ID in a story, you most likely use some sort of caching solution and need to clear the cache.

It looks like the plugin has switched to amp-story-auto-analytics without giving the user an option. How do we add custom events?
print_amp_analytics_tag is no longer in use in the new version due to which web_stories_analytics_configuration filter hook is no longer working.

Hi there, for some reason Google Tag Manager Preview isn’t able to connect to our Google Web Stories.

    It says:
    Google Tag: GTM-NXXXDGT not found

    Please verify that the tag

    • Is installed on this page
    • Is not being blocked (by a browser extension or a consent dialog)

We have the tag installed and was working previously. Somehow only recently we noticed that it stopped working after we implemented CSP Headers. Can you advise whether we need to whitelist IP addresses related to GWS?

Can you also advise whether there is something that we need to check to further troubleshoot this?

    Thank you!
