Re-ordering tables in All Tables in WP admin

    Is there an extension available to allow re-ordering of tables the WP admin area? We’re building tables in small groups of ‘related’ tables and would like to have these ‘related’ tables listed together in the back end. Currently, they are listed in order of creation, meaning that 2 or more ‘related’ tables can be in very different areas of the All Tables list.

    thanks for your question.

    No, such an Extension is not available. Sorry.

    Instead, you should simply make use of the feature that you can change table IDs. The sorting on the admin screen is based on the table ID, which is usually the same order as the date of the creation.
    Now, as table IDs can also contain strings and don’t have to be numbers only, you can prefix the table IDs with a group prefix, to get some sort of categorization.

    sure, no problem, you are very welcome!

    Another idea would be to simply add the group name as a prefix to the name of the table, and then sort on the name.

    By the way, I have “table categories” on my list, but I’m not yet sure when this will land in the plugin.

    Ah Ha! We already had ‘group names’ in the table titles, so simply sorting on those has pretty much fixed our (minor) problem. Thanks.
    Certainly looking forward to ‘table categories’ though – that will be great.
