Hello – I’ve been looking for a way to reorder RSS items into a (separate) custom feed without changing the order of the posts on the site and it looks like this plugin will do it for me.

Let me explain a bit better: This is for a daily email newsletter (RSS driven) where we need to be able to move the positioning of the stories in the RSS feed without changing their publish dates on the actual site. We need the website to be able to display stories in chronological order but want to control the RSS feed so that we can decide which stories are highlighted at the top of the email (as it gets automatically pulled in via RSS).

With this plugin, if I leave both ADMIN SORT and AUTO SORT options un-checked, there doesn’t appear to be any changes to my website but the RSS does follow the re-ordering that I want. Perfect!

I’m just wondering if this is an appropriate use case for this plugin or if this is over-complicating something that would be better served with a different plugin or tool?

I figured there would be a plugin that would allow me to drag / drop Post order to build a custom feed but I’ve had no luck in my searches.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Oh wait, I was wrong – AUTO SORT does need to be checked in order to effect the RSS feed… meaning this won’t work on my live site… but perhaps if I ingest the Titles + Excerpts over to a dummy site and then simply use this plugin to rearrange the articles, I can ‘MacGyver’ my way to a solution. ??

For the RSS sort to be changed you can either set the Autosort to ON, or use a filter to modify the rss query arguments and include a ‘orderby’ => ‘menu_order’ parameter. I think the second option is what you need, as the first apply the sorting across your website.
As alternative you may want to update to advanced version, simply use a conditional and the sort will apply only to certain RSS. This article reveal a bit of information about conditional usage https://www.nsp-code.com/advanced-post-types-order-description-and-usage/using-conditionals-for-sorting-apply/
