• Hi guys,

Every couple days I log into https://www.mudmash.com to check on how it’s doing and the theme it’s running is totally wrong and I have to reactivate the theme I want. It’s like someone is logging into my site, uploading a theme, and that’s it.

Most recently it’s a theme called “startup.”

Any idea why this keeps happening? Driving me nuts. Thank you so much.

  • That sounds far more like a bad theme or plugin. Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

That is really interesting that it could be a cause. Do you know why? Just for curiosity’s sake? It is the plugin is “hacking” or something else?

Anyway, I will try what you’re suggesting, but I can’t switch to Twenty-Eleven. I’ll be back if the plugin deactivation thing doesn’t work. I did completely reupload everything as described last go round because I thought the theme had “broken.”

    Thank you so much.

    I can’t switch to Twenty-Eleven.

Why not? This is an essential part of the basic troubleshooting process.
