We have a situation where, once our customer finalises their order, on their screen where it says “your order has been sucessful”, they get a list of products ordered, and in some random products there are metadata keys (radom values like of tax_amount, labels, rate_id, shipping_tax_amount etc), that we did not put in at any stage.

We have done various tests on various products and it can appear in one order on a specific product and then right afterwards, another test of the same product no metadata appears.

Here is a sample of what is happening :

    Product Quantity Price is oK
    and then

    rate_id:
    1

    label:
    Imposto

    tax_amount:
    9.82

    shipping_tax_amount:
    1.22

    rate_percent:
    23

These values/metadata keys will also be visible in emails, as well as on screen.

Another thing that happens as well is, in random products, apart from the metadata keys, it also gives a list of other products that make no sense at all. Here is the example:

    Vitamine Dose 14 ml

    instance_id:10

    total_tax:0

    Itens: ETHOS Almond Oil 14ml × 1, EVO Gel 001 Whitney 12ml × 1, EVO Gel 101 Donna 12ml × 1, EVO Gel 102 Dané 12ml × 1, Foil Strips – Quadrados de Alumínio Cx 400 (Remover Gel) × 1, EVO Gel 003 Natural White 12ml × 1, EVO Gel 060 Barbie 12ml × 1, ETHOS Vitamin Dose 14ml × 1

Support recommended I bring this topic to the user community.

  • Hi @bsgel,

This may be due to a plugin conflict. Follow these steps to determine if there is a theme/plugin conflict:

    1. Switch your theme to Storefront.
    2. Disable all plugins except WooCommerce.
    3. Perform the test to verify whether the random metadata fields don’t show up.

If the issue is resolved after switching to Storefront theme and deactivating all other plugins except WooCommerce, the problem may be with the plugins and/or theme you deactivated. To figure out which plugin is causing the problem, reactivate your plugins one by one, testing after each reactivation until you find the one causing the issue.

Please share the following information for further investigation:

    1. System Status: You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”. Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.
    2. Fatal Error Log: A copy of any fatal error log found under WooCommerce > System Status > Logs (if available).

    Hi @bsgel

    Thanks for reaching out!

I understand that there are random tax metadata showing in the final orders, correct?

Can you please try to switch to the default Storefront theme and only WooCommerce plugin is enabled, create test orders, and see if this works?

If so, then this kind of problem is usually caused by your theme or a third-party plugin present on your site. We can run a conflict test to verify this. I’d recommend cloning your site to a staging environment and performing the tests described on this guide without modifying your live site or impacting customers. Many hosts provide staging facilities, so it’s worth checking in with them. It’s also possible to do it using the free WP Staging plugin.

If this was caused by a third-party plugin present on your site, it would be best to reach out to the developers for further assistance here.

If this did not resolve the issue, please share your System Status Report, that will help us further troubleshoot.

You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select Get system report and then Copy for support. Once you’ve done that, you can paste it into your reply here.

If you could also provide the fatal error logs (if any) under WooCommerce > Status > Logs.

Let us know how it goes!
