Random links to “make fun” the directory

    Hello Yannick,

    There are 2 main types of directories :
    – Directories listing business addresses (like phone books)
    – Eclectic directories with links of all kinds (museums, festivals, trips, blogs, hotels…)

    In a web phone book, a simple search window is useful, to search from a name or a city.

    In an eclectic directory, visitors are overwhelmed with a wide variety of themes, and they don’t know what to choose or where to go. For such a type of directory, it is wise to offer a few randomly selected links to encourage visitors to embark on a search and continue their exploration in a fun way.

    My question is:
    Do you have the time to develop such a function (display of 4 or 5 random links in a small block to place where you want on a page of the website)?

    Thanks a lot for this plugin so rich in options…

    This is already possible using Link Library. Under the Links tab, you can set the order to “Order randomly”. On the same tab, you can also set “Total max number of links to display” to the number of links to show and you can check the option “Combine all results without categories” if you want a random selection from multiple categories all mixed in together without category headers.

    But I want to display the normal Library AND display a small random links (4 or 5) in a window.
    To make what I want, is it necessary to create a “twin” library of Library 1? I already did that tu display only the new links with “Library 2″(on a separate page) AND the normal Library 1.

    Yes, exactly. You would create a copy of Library 1 to Library 2, then set these options on Library 2. If you already have 2 libraries, set the number of libraries to 3 and copy 1 to 3.

    Il faut choisir les bonnes options (Regrouper tous les résultats sans afficher les catégories) et ne pas afficher “New” pour que le bloc soit homogène.
    J’ai placé le bloc qui affiche quelques liens au hasard (Library 3) sur la page d’accueil.

    Cette extension est comme un jeu de Meccano, on peut tout faire. Mais il faut prendre la peine de plonger un peu les mains dans le cambouis et de tester patiemment.
