Random display of html

When editing ANY page in Visual Mode after “Update” routinely bits (sometimes bunches) of the html from the Text Mode will appear on the page. I have to delete it and after Update some html appears elsewhere on the page. It takes 7 or 8 (or more) attempts to have a clean page.
The html usually is part or more of the code relating to links on the page, but not always.
