• After I updated to the latest WordPress, my site kept going down due to high memory/CPU usage. After 3 days of searching for the problem, I found that various I.P. addresses were pinging my site, only on a particular page “xmlrpc.php” a few thousand times a day. My hits went up by 40 000 causing an overload. (Excuse my lack of technical terms) I blocked the first 2 ip address, and then a new one came on. I did an IP search and found “Speed host” posted the thread I have attached below:

    XMLRPC Attack on WordPress Sites
Posted by Ramshankar S on 22 April 2016 11:01 AM
We have noticed XMLRPC attack on wordpress sites from GoogleBots for which the alloted resources of the hosting packages were exhausted and “Resource Limit Is Reached” error was seen.

The issue has been identified by our server administrators and the abusive IP addresses have been blocked on our network.

My question, has anyone else had this problem recently?
Is this due to a WordPress vulnerability?
Am I doing the right thing blocking googlebots – assuming they are googlebots?
